🌍 China's automated manufacturing base outruns US reindustrialization

Friedberg's science-corner thesis off China's Long March 9 Starship clone: the next couple of years' big race is SpaceX's platform versus a Chinese industrial base that can move fast, big and heavy behind a fully vertically integrated supply chain. The Western assumption that Chinese cost advantage is cheap or slave labour is wrong - the real edge is automation and manufacturing engineering, which gives them higher throughput at lower cost, so China gets ahead of the US in any product faster than the US can stay ahead. The US answer cannot be warehouses and headcount; it has to be advanced manufacturing - automation, 3D printing, redesigned systems of production - and the US has stalled out on that for three decades and is lagging deeply.
