The price floors... are designed to create enough certainty for US investors that they can reinvest in rare earths and reshore the processing and the casting of rare earth magnets... you have to address that if you want to alleviate the American dependency on this critical resource.
MP has a deal with General Motors, one of my businesses that makes LFP cathode, same deal with GM... the US balance sheet is the only one that can create a strategic reserve around these inputs... I'm a big fan of this general market structure. It's the only way that you can not be theoretical and actually respond to the conditions on the ground... The real future markets that really matter is in robotics, because these permanent magnets are the key input to the actuation mechanism of the robots.

Rare-earths trade war is the market core: China's Dec-1 export controls on 12 of 17 critical minerals plus Trump's 100% tariff threat frame Chamath's strongest reinforcement yet of critical-minerals-champions-2025 — buyer-of-record/strategic-reserve as 'the only practical antidote' to Chinese mercantilism, with receipts (MP-GM and 8090-GM take-or-pay deals) and the robotics-actuator demand kicker. Sacks defends the price-floor structure (czar-capped at 1); Friedberg argues deregulation over floors and claims 1000x unproven reserves — policy mechanics, not captured. Chamath flags hyperscaler data-center cancellations (Google Indianapolis, Microsoft Wisconsin, Amazon Tucson) over electricity/water/noise as 'the beginning of a trend' — attached to electricity-prices-double; he urges hyperscalers to spend free cash on community buy-in. Sacks reinforces the AI boom (40% of GDP growth, jobs-loss 'fallacy', 'humans are end to end, AI is middle to middle'). SF National Guard cold open, Argentina $40B swap, and the AI-jobs debate stay digest-only. Labels: clean — full roster labeled with consistent receipts.
