The anti-tech/labor backlash hits autonomy next: New York, Boston and DC ban Waymos outright or throttle them with license regimes, slowing the robotaxi rollout in exactly the densest markets.
we should watch for this in the autonomous car space too. Cities may get cute and start doing things like that. And what they did on scooters, they could do on cars. ... New York is literally doing this right now.
The OpenAI growth rate has been around 3-4x a year. The Anthropic growth rate has been around 10x a year... they're going to end this year at 80-100 billion, at least on the current trajectory... you could see Anthropic taking a lead here that, let's say over the next one or two years, could be insurmountable.
If I were them, it is a five alarm fire for them. They, more than anybody else, needs to get their hands on compute. ... otherwise that revenue could either slow down or hit a wall, and it will not be because of product quality and adoption. It will entirely be because of the Friendster effect. You just couldn't keep the site up.

Travis Kalanick guests. OpenAI's identity crisis: Sacks' definitive growth-rate analysis (Anthropic 10x/yr vs OpenAI 3-4x/yr; enterprise/coding is the scalable revenue; the lead 'could be insurmountable' — though he flags physical limits and Anthropic possibly 'hoisted on its own petard of doomerism' now that it must build data centers; his Mythos-as-compute-scarcity-marketing read via Andreessen). Datacenter wars: Allbirds pivots to 'Newbird AI' and rips 450% (peak-bubble tell); Chamath's compute-constraint thesis names Bloom Energy 'gone absolutely straight up' (BYOE natgas onsite — attached to natgas-powers-ai), quantifies the NIMBY damage (100 contested sites ≈ $162B, Maine bans data centers outright), and warns the labs face a Friendster-effect revenue wall (anthropic-ipo oppose — his third stance change on the idea; the ledger tracks each). Friedberg's data-center-as-'temple of the wealthy' populism theory and Sacks' astroturfed-doomer catalog stay digest-only. Mamdani's first tax — a ~3.9% pied-à-terre levy on NYC second homes — Sacks: targeting the most elastic demand 'will crash the whole market' (no clean instrument; NYC-resi). Market at fresh all-time highs on Iran-resolution pricing: Travis' 'the stock market is Trump's weather vane' theory; Chamath goes explicitly risk-off (Shiller + Buffett indicators peaking, disclosed intent to de-lever into the IPO window) — captured as an oppose on us-boom-2026, reversing his E261 six-percent-print support; Sacks half-endorses the conservative posture while remaining structurally bullish; the scale-profits fight (Chamath: 'show me ONE example of scale profits from enterprise AI') continues unresolved. Swalwell resigns amid coordinated oppo (politics); Ro Khanna's $600M of trades and Pelosi-returns riffing — politics/ethics, no instrument. Labels: clean; Travis properly labeled.
