No second lockdown is coming (people won't comply), rapid antigen testing rolls out everywhere within months, and behavior snaps back — sports games, offices three days a week, travel. COVID is 'a distant memory by next summer' and reopening beta wins.
There's not going to be a second lockdown. It doesn't make any sense. And even if there were, people aren't going to support it... I think COVID is going to be a distant memory by next summer. I really do... I think people will largely be back to what they were doing last summer... there was no trend of people not going to sports games anymore... stuff like that will just snap right back.
My personal view is rates are going to stay basically at zero for the next half decade... probably a full decade... the capital markets are in an expansive mood and an expansive mode... the real earnest capital allocation strategy left for most CEOs is to buy things, invest in things, try more things... In general, I'm kind of constructive and bullish. And I don't think this idea that there's a permanent unemployment class sticks around.

TikTok/Oracle 'deal' torched by all (Sacks: ByteDance 'paying political protection money to Larry Ellison'; won't satisfy Hawley or Trump's own criteria; civil-military fusion + Equifax-hack attribution as the real case); consensus 100% odds of foreign-intelligence plants inside every big tech company. Chamath declares 'privacy is the killer feature of the 2020s' (Signal/FaceTime/WhatsApp usage, packet-sniffer fears; prefigures Apple's privacy positioning — no instrument, digest); Friedberg's hyper-transparency thought experiment (The Light of Other Days). Captures: Chamath's fed-zero re-up (zero rates 'probably a full decade', expansive capital markets, no permanent-unemployment class — contra the episode's premise), his SPAC-complex expansion (IPOD/E/F filed mid-taping, Opendoor confirmed as IPOB), Sacks' dated normalcy call (new idea: distant memory by summer 2021, no second lockdown) and his point-of-care testing scale-up nod (Quidel named). Friedberg pushes back on 'coronavirus death' attribution (comorbidity confounds) and stays behaviorally scarred ('like TSA after 9/11 — we're not going back, we're going forward into a different world'). Fires segment: forest management AND climate both true; Chamath's decarbonization-as-biggest-economic-opportunity + cement/steel/high-temp manufacturing incentives; Friedberg concedes he was WRONG betting against premium meat alternatives; Running Tide kelp-sinking, engineered algae, CRISPR'd low-methane cows; nuclear killed by $10B regulatory cost + NIMBY (NuScale SMR approval noted). Cancel-culture corner (Taxonomy of Fear, safetyism, JK Rowling contamination-by-association): Chamath and Sacks both predict IF Trump wins, cancel-culture overreach is why — politics, digest. Labels clean.
