NEW SPY 🌍 Fed at zero for half a decade — get paid to be long equities closed 0 CONTESTED ▲ +44.7 0.0 → 44.7

Powell's landmark speech commits to zero rates for ~5 years and letting inflation run; with a zero (soon negative) risk-free rate, every allocator (CalPERS et al.) is forced into equities. You cannot fight the Fed — every dip is a buying opportunity and public markets are the most unimpeded market for gains.

Jerome Powell gave this landmark speech and he basically said we are going to keep rates at zero for the next half decade... you're basically going to get paid to be long equities because your risk-free rate is zero and will soon be negative... you cannot fight the Fed... all of these opportunities, in my opinion, are generally buying opportunities. And I'm generally bullish. I'm more bullish now than I was before.
NEW SPCE 📈 IPO 2.0: the Chamath SPAC complex closed 14 CONTESTED ▲ +30.1 0.0 → 30.1

SPACs fix the broken IPO (priced like a late-stage round + direct listing); Chamath reserved IPOA-Z on the NYSE, writes $100M personally into every deal, and predicts he and one or two others dominate the category as thousands of companies come public earlier (~$50M revenue, year 5-6).

I reserved IPO A through Z on the NYSE. I hope to fulfill that. And I think I will... My personal perspective, it's probably us and maybe one or two other people who really dominate the space... In every deal, I write a minimum of $100 million personally, and that's a lot. That's skin in the game.

Episode digest

written during extraction and stored in data/extractions/ep007.json — the auditable source of truth, including everything market-adjacent that did not earn a capture

Post-bestie-summer episode (taped 2020-09-09). The two era-defining captures: Chamath's fed-zero long-equities doctrine (public > private: newly-public growth gets 30-40x vs 10-20x private — 'companies should go public around year five at ~$50M revenue') and the SPAC-complex positioning ($100M personal per deal; Sacks' SPAC-as-Series-D-plus-direct-listing explainer; Hartz/Hoffman/Pincus/Ackman wave acknowledged). California-collapse corner: SF as 'junkie problem not homeless problem' (fentanyl ODs ~500/yr), Chesa non-prosecution, Chamath's 'clown car' one-party incompetence + Singapore pay-civil-servants fix, Friedberg talked off the exodus ledge by a Newsom group call (wealth-tax bill 'wasn't real'), Sacks' resource-curse theory of SF; AB5/Prop-22 fight (Teamsters capture per Sacks; Chamath: the state is 'capturing the excess return' of oligopolists, franchising is the smart pivot) — no instrument, digest. Police-reform list (qualified immunity, 911 social-worker branch, no-knock warrants, demilitarization); Sacks predicts NO gun-control legislation for a generation (gun sales at ATH — no capture, legislative not market). Election: Sacks flips to TRUMP wins ('first time I've said this'), Chamath Biden ('crispest he's looked'), Friedberg coin-flip + his democracy-cycle essay (progress asymmetry → fascism/socialism → cycle; 'realized in our lifetimes') — politics, digest. Labels clean; SPEAKER_5 stray interjections only.
