each voice's net push ON THIS TICKER — their most recent stance per idea × the idea's direction × strength, so supporting a bearish idea pushes down. Not conviction (that lives on the idea); this is direction of travel per person. what w= means

Jason Jason support ×2 ▼ on 📈 Higher education's value unwinds, starting with the MBA E238 · 2025-08-09 ▶ 1:06:00
Now they have opted out of education. They're starting to look at and go, I'm going to UT. I'm going to be in a state where I can pay, you know, 50k in total for my degree.
Jason Jason support ×2 ▼ on 📈 Higher education's value unwinds, starting with the MBA E237 · 2025-08-01 ▶ 25:28
And now those two things have flipped, or they're like neck and neck. If you have a college degree, you have no advantage as a man coming out in this 20 to 27 year old range.

So I think the problem that we'll have is in the absence of brand, it's just going to be very difficult to differentiate oneself and filter people. And I think that what Jason says becomes the huge problem, which is then the burden of professional development for all these young kids is extremely heavy. So I think that the idea of all of this tooling is good and it's necessary, but I think it's insufficient.
Friedberg Friedberg support ×3 ▼ on 📈 Higher education's value unwinds, starting with the MBA E234 · 2025-07-04 ▶ 58:49
AI is the next leg of the stool to break. And I think that AI may actually break education. It may break higher education and then eventually it may make its way all the way down to childhood.
Friedberg Friedberg support ×2 ▼ on 📈 Higher education's value unwinds, starting with the MBA E233 · 2025-06-28 ▶ 49:37
There's no underwriting in student loans today. There's no underwriting. The student loan program, the federal student loan program needs to go away.
Chamath Chamath support ×2 ▼ on 📈 Higher education's value unwinds, starting with the MBA E224 · 2025-04-19 ▶ 49:55
It is an asset manager that may happen to have some educational things that they do on the side, which increasingly are not what we need it to do.
TI Tim Dillon support ×2 ▼ on 📈 Higher education's value unwinds, starting with the MBA E224 · 2025-04-19 ▶ 1:00:56
I don't think it's a good idea for these kids to take out hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of loans to, you know, go away for four years, not have a solid plan and not execute and then graduate mired in debt without really a pathway to paying any of it back
Friedberg Friedberg support ×3 ▼ on 📈 Higher education's value unwinds, starting with the MBA E224 · 2025-04-19 ▶ 1:03:04
So I do think like as AI kind of takes over education, I do expect that the workplace will change, Tim, and we will start to see more of this integration between education and workplace enabled by this AI-driven kind of, you know, development system, which is going to be radically different than what we have today.
MA Mark Pincus support ×2 ▼ on 📈 Higher education's value unwinds, starting with the MBA E211 · 2025-01-18 ▶ 1:22:57
It also probably is going to reduce the demand to go into these MBA programs, because if you're thinking, well, that's not going to be my risk off trade, and I'm not going to be guaranteed. So why go in the first place?
Chamath Chamath support ×2 ▼ on 📈 Higher education's value unwinds, starting with the MBA E211 · 2025-01-18 ▶ 1:24:32
But I do think that this is a warning sign that people should not go and pursue these degrees, because I think, as Pincus said, you're not taking the trade of least volatility. You're actually taking on a lot more volatility than you probably thought you shouldn't be taking on by going to a place like Harvard or Stanford.
Friedberg Friedberg support ×3 ▼ on 📈 Higher education's value unwinds, starting with the MBA E211 · 2025-01-18 ▶ 1:33:01
And I think that that's what AI is going to take us to, which is basically going to destroy much of the value of higher education. And I think that this MBA piece is probably just the first step of many. That's going to ultimately erode the value.
Friedberg Friedberg support ×2 ▲ on 🏛️ Loan forgiveness without reform keeps the tuition gravy train running E142 · 2023-08-18 ▶ 32:02
We've given everyone access to an education by giving free student loans out. And those student loans have caused an asset bubble in the price of education.
Chamath Chamath support ×2 ▲ on 🏛️ Loan forgiveness without reform keeps the tuition gravy train running E93 · 2022-08-26 ▶ 35:12
Then there's the incentives that it creates for colleges, which is, well, I'm just going to keep jacking up tuition because if they did it once, they may do it again.
Sacks Sacks support ×2 ▲ on 🏛️ Loan forgiveness without reform keeps the tuition gravy train running E93 · 2022-08-26 ▶ 42:02
it's going to make tuition go up, because the more government subsidizes something, the more those providers have an incentive to raise the cost.
Friedberg Friedberg support ×3 ▲ on 🏛️ Loan forgiveness without reform keeps the tuition gravy train running E93 · 2022-08-26 ▶ 38:10
the ultimate beneficiary of that bill, while we all might want to say it's the people that are getting debt relief that have taken out these student loans, that money was transferred to somewhere. And you know where it was transferred to? University endowments and the pockets of for-profit educational institutions.
Chamath Chamath support ×1 ▼ on 🏛️ Free community college squeezes the for-profit colleges E31 · 2021-05-01 ▶ 37:40
making community college free. That's a really disruptive idea because it'll put a ton of pressure on for-profit colleges, right, to like get their act together or not.
